Home / Motore di ricerca / Redefinition: Vlad Morariu visits vessel

From June 30 to July 13, vessel will host Romanian philosopher and art critic, Vlad Morariu (born 1983). This will give the curators currently in residency at vessel additional insight on confronting the issue of redefinition. The presence of the researcher at the space for a period of two weeks will allow for an extensive survey of redefinition utilizing philosophical methodologies.

Aiming at reviewing a series of concepts that defined the East/West boundaries in the last 20 years, this approach will take into consideration the role that the art institutions played in this process. The three will try to answer to the question of whether the symbolic status of the “New Europe” brings in a new perspective that would enrich the legacy of institutional critique.

Vlad Morariu is a philosopher and art critic. He is currently pursuing his PhD research at Loughborough University School of the Arts where he is a member of the Politicized Practice Research Group . His thesis explores the present conditions and possibilities of critical practices within art institutions, with a focus on institutional critique. In different contexts, he activated as an artist, curator, and cultural organizer, and contributed to the development of the Vector / Periferic Biennial platforms in Iaşi, Romania. He received scholarships from the Goethe Zentrum (2005) and Kulturreferat der Hauptstadt Muenchen (2008). He translated social and art theory works (Marius Babias, Arthur Danto) and he published in Romania and abroad in magazines such as "Idea. Arts + Society" (RO), "Boekman" (NL) and "Framework"(FI). He was also the editor of the "Vector. Art and Culture in Context" (RO) art magazine.
