In the context of RSVP_05 Cultural Struggles and the Criticality of Withdrawal, a lecture held by Vlad Morariu April 24, 2014 at Trafo Gallery, art critic and co-curator of the project Giant Step has had the opportunity to present for the first time to the public the volume Giant Step. Reflections and Essays on Institutional Critique.

Although it was not an official presentation of the publication, Vlad Morariu in his lecture referred to some of the studies and research set out therein, essays that follow the project Giant Step which investigated the significance and possible ways of appropriating the heritage of institutional critique in the marginal areas of the Western art world.

Morariu’s lecture presented an analysis of the interactions have recently emerged in the major events of art and culture as the latest international biennials in Istanbul, Sydney, Bucharest as well as Manifesta in St. Petersburg, these appointments saw an impressive deployment of oppositional forces questioning the ethical, political, and economic functions that these events serve.

The conference was part of the RSVP series, a round of debates organized by Trafo Gallery and which aims to examine the relationship between contemporary art, critical approaches, methods, and perspectives, relating them with some of the local and regional specificities of art criticism.
